Morning Grange #227 was established in Johnson County in June 1873, initially convening at the Old Rock School in Spring Hill with 26 charter members2. Meeting schedules adjusted to the rhythms of farm life; winter sessions were earlier in the evening to accommodate longer nights, while summer meetings allowed farmers to finish in the fields before gathering. Traditions included serving oyster soup and pie at officer installations and wedding celebrations—customs fostering camaraderie and continuity. Over a century later, Morning Grange #227 remains the 227th community or subordinate grange chartered in Kansas, continuing an unbroken legacy of local service, education, and fellowship |
